about

This is a revamped edition of the original 4-song demo CD (and cassette) of the pioneer Chicago sub-underground power trio: magnesium. It is now a full collection of rarities, bootlegs and demos, so beware of audio inconsistencies.

Once formed into its official line-up of Boots, McClain and Cassidy in late 1999 in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago, the new power trio embarked on the writing, crafting, shaping, scorging, smelting and refining of dirge blues, funk rock improvisations, and uptempo jaunts laced with grungy psychedelia.

Inventors of smooth metal and purveyors of industrial funk, this band existed from 1999 to 2001 with a brief resurgence in 2004 in San Francisco. 3 songs of the original demo remain, along with additional rare live recordings of other unreleased songs: still ahead of its time and outside of any proper category, we are relatively certain it can be called rock music. Primary musical influences include: Primus, Hendrix Experience, Funkadelic, Cream, Elmore James, Buddy Guy and electric-era Miles (more Dark Magus than Bitches Brew). This is the 6th release in the "zeroth law Archival Re-release Project": the back catalog of compositions and recordings from reed renegade Cornelius Boots, founder of Edmund Welles: the bass clarinet quartet.
